Banking architecture: payouts

Know when money is really yours to use.

A sale and usable cash are different events. Between them sit authorisation, settlement, holdbacks, payout schedules and bank processing. Designing these on purpose is the difference between a company that feels liquid and one that surprises itself.

The timeline behind each payment

Every inflow has a date when it becomes spendable

The assessment draws that date for each stream of money: when the customer pays, when the processor settles, when funds reach an account you control, and when they can be moved out. The gaps may not be visible in accounting until they matter.

Account opening is a separate service; this assessment designs the set-up and does not open accounts or promise any provider decision.

Two kinds of streams

Two kinds of streams

Delay

Platform and processor streams: Set by schedules and rules of the provider; Direct bank transfers: Set by the payer and the banking rails

Holdbacks

Platform and processor streams: Possible, for risk or refunds; Direct bank transfers: Rare

Predictability

Platform and processor streams: High if the rules are stable, low if they change; Direct bank transfers: Depends on payer behaviour

Design lever

Platform and processor streams: Choice of payout schedule and number of payout accounts; Direct bank transfers: Invoicing terms and payment methods offered

Variables

What moves the settlement picture

Refund and chargeback profile

High-return businesses need more buffer behind the settlement.

Seasonality

A design that works in a flat year may strain in a peak.

Cross-border payouts

Extra legs add delay and cost.

Step by step

What we map

01

Streams

Each source of money, by size and share.

02

Timelines

For each stream, the path from authorisation of a payment to cash you can spend, with the stages the provider controls marked.

03

Outgoing obligations

When payroll, suppliers and obligations fall due.

04

Gap analysis

Periods in which obligations come before usable money.

05

Options

Options that could close each gap, such as a changed payout schedule, a placed reserve or an alternative route, each with what it would need from you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you speed up my payouts?+

We cannot change a provider's rules. We design around them and identify where options exist.

No. Financing is outside scope.
