Traceable findings

A German company, findings traced to sources.

A report is only as useful as the reader's ability to check it. For a German counterparty each finding is written down together with the source it rests on, so that you, your adviser or a colleague can follow it back. This page describes how that traceability is built and where the report stops.

What the reader holds

Can someone other than the analyst follow each finding back to where it came from?

The deliverable is a commercial background report with a source log and a method and limitations note. Each finding names its source and carries one of four markings: verified fact, inference, unavailable or client-provided. A finding with no source in the log is not presented as a fact.

What the sources establish

Cited statements: Germany

01

Joint portal for the state registers

The joint register portal of the German federal states (Handelsregister.de) states that it provides the commercial, cooperative, partnership and company registers as well as the association registers of all federal states, together with the register announcements.

02

Non-binding retrieval

The register portal states that structured information the federal states make available for retrieval is a non-binding service, and that its content may in particular cases differ from the current register printout.

03

Central platform and EUID

The Unternehmensregister describes itself as the central platform for company data and offers a quick search by company name or EUID, an extended search, and access to the commercial, cooperative, company and partnership registers.

04

Beneficial-owner platform

The Bundesanzeiger Verlag describes the Transparenzregister as the official platform of the Federal Republic of Germany for data on beneficial owners (wirtschaftlich Berechtigte).

What the report does not do

What the report does not do

Draw legal conclusions

It does not say whether an entry is valid or what it means in law.

Rank the counterparty

There is no score, grade or clearance. Findings are marked and left for you to weigh.

Give legal or tax advice

The report is a commercial reading of public sources.

Step by step

How a finding is built

01

Fix the entity

The name and any number you hold are matched to one entity; alternatives are listed.

02

Read and log

What a source shows is written into the source log with the source named.

03

Set against your documents

Proposal, contract and website are compared with what was read, and each agreement and difference is listed.

04

Write the method note

The note says which sources were read, in what order, and what could not be reached. The order follows the question: official or registry records first, then the company's own material, then third-party and platform material, then what you supplied.
