A commercial agent, whether a person trading as a business or a small agency, sells on your behalf instead of buying the goods to resell. That makes the profile you need different from a distributor's: sector knowledge, customer access and conflicting principals matter more than warehouses. This research finds and profiles agent candidates from public sources.
An agent can be harder to see than a company with stock, so the approach changes. We look at agent and sales-representative directories, trade association member lists where published, trade event exhibitor and visitor pages, and the principals named on agent websites. Each candidate is profiled on the sector it covers, the territory it states, the principals it lists and whether those principals compete with you. Where the candidate is an individual trading in a personal capacity, only publicly registered business details are used.
Whether an agent has capacity for another principal, or good relationships with the buyers it names, cannot be read from a directory. The report says so rather than implying it.
The profile weighs engineering background evident from the agent's own materials and the capital-goods principals already listed.
Looks for agencies with retail buyer relationships and checks that listed principals are not direct substitutes.
Starts from the territory and the customer types that agent served, then lists candidates active with those buyers.
Listed principals are compared with your range. A direct substitute is a stated exclusion, not a footnote.
An agent may claim a whole country while visible activity sits in one region. Both are reported.
If the agent trades as a company, its registry entry is read. If as an individual, only publicly registered business details are used.
The deliverable is a short, sourced file rather than a contact dump.
One profile per shortlisted candidate with the sources cited.
Side-by-side reading of sector, territory and principal conflict.
Suggested points to test capacity, customer access and how the candidate works with principals.
