A distributor longlist arrives from an event, a directory or a former colleague, and the names are of different kinds: distributors, sub-agents, retailers, group offices, a person who has since left. This page is about screening a list you provide on tests particular to distribution, not about building one.
Two tests are particular to distributors. The first is entity against territory: whether the name on your list is the company recorded and shown as distributing in the territory you care about, or a group member, a sub-distributor or a brand name. The second is conflict: which competing or substitute lines the candidate lists on its own pages, and whether any appear as exclusive. Each name is marked kept, set aside or too little evidence against each test, with the source for the mark, so a gap is not read as a rejection.
Your list is client-provided. It is screened, not extended; a search for further names is a separate brief.
Whether the territory the candidate itself lists is the one you care about, and whether another entity is shown as the distributor for part of it.
Group parent, local subsidiary or trading brand: which of these the name on your list is, from the record and the candidate's own pages.
Competing or substitute lines the candidate lists, and any wording that suggests exclusivity, reported as stated by the company.
What the candidate carries and to whom, read from its own materials and listings.
Many names, uneven information, no stated criteria. The first job is turning a wish into tests that can be read against sources.
The screen checks whether each entity still shows in sources and whether its activity has changed.
A second read before committing, against the tests written down at the start.
Appetite, capacity and terms are only known by talking to the candidate.
