Required certification

A certificate is a condition. So the search starts from who claims to hold it.

Some buyers cannot proceed without a manufacturer that holds a particular standard or certificate. The search then narrows to companies that state they hold it, and the useful output is a record of what each one claims, to which scope and from which issuer. Alongside the shortlist and source log, each claim comes with a list of what to ask the candidate to produce.

The decision question

Which candidates claim this certificate, and for what exactly?

A certificate has a holder, a scope, an issuing body and a site, and a logo on a website says none of that. For each candidate we record what is stated: the standard named, the entity and site it appears to cover, the product or process scope if shown, and where the claim was read. We do not state that a company is certified. The report lists what to ask the company to produce and which issuer can confirm it, and that final confirmation remains yours.

We do not state what your market requires for a product. You bring the requirement; the search treats it as a criterion and checks it only as far as public statements go.

What is recorded for each certification claim

What is recorded for each certification claim

Standard and version as named

Exactly as the company words it, so a general quality system is not read as a product-specific scheme.

Entity and site named

Whether the claim names the legal entity and production site, or a related company or only a head office.

Scope

The products or processes the certificate is said to cover, and where the scope is not stated, unavailable.

Issuer and where to confirm

The issuing body when named, and the kind of record the issuer may be asked to confirm.

Three ways a requirement arrives

Three ways a requirement arrives

A retailer's supplier requirement

The named scheme is the filter, and candidates stating a different scheme are listed separately, not mixed in.

A customer asking for a quality management certificate

Wider in meaning, so the comparison leans on scope and site rather than on the mere presence of a claim.

A product category with a conformity requirement

We do not interpret the requirement. The report records which documents candidates mention and leaves the rule to a qualified professional.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Will you confirm the certificate is genuine?+

No. We record the claim, its scope and the issuer to check with. Confirmation sits with the issuer and with you.

Can you tell me which certification my product needs?+

No. We do not state what a market requires. Bring the requirement and we search against it.

What if no candidate states the certification?+

The report says so and records which candidates came closest, without presenting them as matching.
