Licence check

A licence in a PDF is a claim, not a record.

A licence may arrive as a scan or screenshot. A scan shows what was issued at some point; only the issuing register can show whether that licence is on record and in what state. This review compares the document you hold with the register entry, where the licence type is published at all.

The decision question

Is the licence I was sent on record with the body that issued it?

The work starts from the document: issuer, licence number, holder, activity covered and any dates. We then look for the matching entry in the issuing body's public register and compare each field. Where the register does not exist or is not public, the report says so and the licence stays classed as client-provided, since the supplier supplied it and no independent source was available.

A licence record does not show that the holder is currently complying with its conditions. It shows what the register states about the licence.

Questions the review answers about the document

Questions the review answers about the document

Does the number resolve to this holder

The issuing register is searched by number and by name. The holder recorded must match the legal entity on your contract, not just a similar name.

Does the licence cover what is being sold

A licence may be limited to an activity, a product class or a site. The report sets the covered scope against the goods in your order.

Is the status current in the record

Active, suspended, expired or revoked are reported as the register states them, with the date the entry was read.

Three licence situations

Three licence situations

A licence listed under a group member

The supplier's contracting entity is not the one holding the licence. The report spells out the relationship the sources show and what remains unconfirmed.

A licence from a body that publishes nothing online

No comparison is possible. You receive the point as unavailable plus the question to put to the issuer, which only the issuer or the holder can answer.

A licence issued in another country than the supplier's seat

The report notes which body issued it and whether its register is searchable, without stating what either country requires.

What a licence review is not

What a licence review is not

Not a regulatory compliance opinion

Whether the licence suffices for your import or sale is a legal question for a qualified professional in the relevant market.

Not a check of the underlying product

A licence about the company does not test product quality or conformity.

Not forensic document examination

We compare content with records. We do not authenticate paper, seals or signatures.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What if the register entry does not match the scan?+

The differences are listed with both values, and the point is written as a question for the supplier or the issuer.

Can you check a licence I do not have a number for?+

We try by holder name and issuer, and say how far that succeeded.

Does this cover product certificates?+

No. This review covers a business licence. Certificate claims made by manufacturers are recorded in a manufacturer search.
