Used containers at Koper: selling and sourcing on the northern Adriatic
Luka Koper reports a record 1.27 million TEU in 2025 and says rail carried the larger share of its cargo. Its own terminal page also lists a depot for empties with room for fifteen thousand TEU, which is unusual detail for a port page and the reason this one is worth reading closely.
A depot for empties inside the terminal
The port lists storage for 20,700 TEU in the marine terminal and 15,000 TEU in a depot for empties. Where empties are stored on purpose, equipment questions become practical ones: how long a box has stood, in what condition, and who is entitled to move it.
Rail and reefers
The terminal lists railway tracks of 700 m and shorter lengths and 1,200 reefer outlets. We do not act for the port. Whether a lot leaves by rail or lorry, and whether a refrigerated unit fits a buyer, is settled for each deal.
Owners and buyers across borders
Owners report one-way, SOC, off-hire, used or damaged containers with quantity and release date. Buyers in Slovenia or in neighbouring countries register a type, a quantity range and how far they can collect. Customs steps between countries stay with you and your agent.
The northern Adriatic
Other Adriatic ports exist within reach, and a request naming Koper can be compared with them by actual distance once they have pages of their own. For now we compare only against the pages that exist.
